A problem faced by Alceon Corporation, an engineering consulting firm in Cambridge, MA that specializes in hazardous waste management, was how to improve public health risk assessment at hazardous waste sites. The main concern was to find a method to present and predict the full distributions of risk, such as the number of people exposed to toxic chemicals in the environment.
